About Me

Years in Position:  9 years; all at Edison

Years in Education: Before I started teaching at Edison, I worked as a long-term substitute at the Open Classroom.  I used to be a parent co-oper for many years at the Open Classroom while my own children went there.  I worked as a student teacher at Escalante Elementary.  At Edison I first taught 4th grade for 3 years.  This will be my 7th year teaching 2nd grade.

Credentials: I studied 5 years at the University of Innsbruck and received a Bachelor of Arts for studying German and Social History.  I got a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah in Elementary Education with a minor in English as a Second Language.

Family: My former husband, also from Austria and a professor in biology at the U, and I raised four children.  They are all in their 20s now.  They are either in college or in graduate school.  Even though my children don’t live with me I am very close to and very proud of them.

Hobbies: I love and need being in nature, preferably away from the city.  I enjoy observing animals, especially watching birds during spring and fall migration, camping, hiking, swimming, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, reading, road trips by myself, kayaking,  going to musicals , plays, modern dance (performed by students at the U of U), visiting and traveling with my sister in Austria (as well as with my mom).

Favorite Summer Memory: I went to Europe and traveled with my sister and my mom to Assisi.  I found myself in a magically preserved medieval city.

Favorite Children’s Book: All nature books by Bird Baylor

Other: I was born in Austria.  I see myself as an immigrant and enjoy working within an immigrant community.  I care about social justice.
