I am so excited to be reading and learning with you this year! We will be reading, following our curiosity, and sharing our learning.

I am here to support students, teachers, and parents.

  • >Every student at Edison is expected to read for at least 20 minutes every day after school. This is the BEST thing you can do to become a reader. To fulfill this responsibility, you can:

    • Read silently and independently
    • Read out loud to a parent or loved one
    • Read to your pet or favorite stuffy
    • Follow along while a parent or another reader reads to you
    • Read short books or long books
    • Read fiction or nonfiction
    • Read something online or in your hand

    Pick the methods and the materials that interest you. You can be SURE that if you practice reading every night, you WILL become a good reader! This is 100% GUARANTEED!

    Visit Edison's School Library or the SLC Public Libraries to check out books to read. Go online to our DESTINY LIBRARY catalog (Edison's Library catalog), SORA, EPIC, or Utah's Online Library to find and read books online. Contact me to get the passwords needed for at-home access.

  • Help pick our statewide Beehive Book Award winners.  This year's list of Beehive Book nominees is available HERE. 

    The books are divided into five categories: 

    • Picture Books (Easy Fiction)
    • Children’s Fiction books (chapter books)
    • Informational books (nonfiction)
    • Graphic Novels (comic books)
    • Poetry

    If you read one of the Beehive books, you can fill in a ballot and turn it in to me for a prize. If you read five, you will get a bigger prize. All votes need to be submitted by the end of March 2025. The winners will be announced in April.

  • Participate in the district's annual Battle of the Books reading competition. 
    Read one or more of the Battle books. Join the school Battle of the Books in January. The winners will participate in the district's Battle of the Books in March.
    The battle consists of multiple-choice questions about each Battle book so the more you read, the better you'll do.

Hours:

Library classes occur weekly for every class:

  • 5th grade: 8:15-9:00am
  • 4th grade: 9:05-9:50am
  • 3rd grade: 9:55-10:40am
  • 2nd grade: 11:50am-12:35pm
  • Kindergarten: 12:45-1:30pm
  • 1st grade: 1:35-2:20pm

The Library is available to individual students and families at the end of the school day:

  • Monday to Thursday @ 2:20-2:45pm
  • Friday @ 1:15-1:45pm

Checkout:

Every Edison student is expected to check out a library book each week, and to return it in good condition and in a timely manner.

  • 5th graders can have up to 3 books at a time; books are due in two weeks
  • 4th graders can have up to 2 books at a time; books are due in two weeks
  • 3rd graders can have up to 2 books at a time; books are due the next week
  • 2nd graders can have 1 book at a time; books are due the next week
  • 1st graders & Kindergartners can have 1 book at a time; books are kept in the classroom
  • Parents can have up to 5 books at a time; books are due in two weeks

You can find your due dates by logging into Destiny Discover or asking in the Library.

Overdues and Fines:

Late books can be returned without any fines. If a student has an overdue book, their borrowing privileges may be restricted. If they have an overdue book for more than a month, they will receive a paper notice that they are asked to share with their parenting adults. Their homeroom teachers will also be notified and parents may be contacted directly through ParentSquare.

Students who lose a book or return a book with significant damage may be charged a fine. The best way to take care of this responsibility is to pay the fine as soon as possible. If necessary, please contact me for other options.
