Announcements
Coffee with Kinder Families:
- Next Friday, Sept 11, all kindergarten families are invited to join Dr. G, Mr. Layton, and Mrs. Stern for coffee in the family collaboration room at 8:15. This is a chance to connect and ask questions.
- As the year continues, we will have Coffee with Families for a different grade level each month on the second Friday of the month. Our next grade level will be 1st grade.
Individual Reading Plans (IRPs):
- Due to a new state law, individual reading plans will be created for any 1st, 2nd, or 3rd graders who score below grade level on our beginning of year reading test.
- The main goal of these plans is to ensure we are providing targeted interventions to ensure struggling readers are able to read on grade level by the end of the year. Another important goal is to ensure we are partnering with you as parents so that we are providing supports at school and home.
- Our beginning of year reading assessment will be given on September 15th. If your child scores below grade level on this assessment, you will be notified by your child's teacher. Your child's teacher, along with our reading intervention team, will create an Individual Reading Plan (IRP) for your student.
- Individual Reading Plans will be shared with parent at fall Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Kinder students: IRPs for kinder students will be based on December reading assessments.
Parent-Teacher Conferences this year: We want to make you aware of a few important considerations impacting Parent-Teacher Conferences and conference scheduling at Edison this year.
- Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Oct 7 and 8 this year.
- If an Individual Reading Plan (see above) is created for your child, your child's teacher will discuss that plan with you at Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conferences may be slightly longer than regular conferences.
- Teachers in grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade will begin scheduling conferences starting on September 16th in order to accommodate scheduling conferences that involve Individual Reading Plans.
- Teachers in all other grade levels will begin scheduling conferences on September 23rd.
